About Cape Compass

Compass Services
Jeff Kaufmann started Cape Compass in 1988, after a classic apprenticeship with Master Compass Adjuster and inventor Harold S. Burns. Based in Falmouth on Cape Cod in SE Massachusetts, Cape Compass offers complete magnetic compass services to local boat owners, shipyards, boat manufacturers, Coast Guard and Navy vessels, commercial fishing boats, ferry boats, ships, tugs and has even solved compass problems for miniature submarines.

Although a great majority of the business is local, compass adjustment services have been performed on ships from Maine to Virginia.

The repair shop is equipped to analyze and model a wide scale of compass problems, and consulting and design services include yacht customers from Perth, Australia, yachtsmen planning trips to Antarctica, boat builders in North Carolina, USCG vessels in Alaska and Guam and the US Navy 6th fleet in the Mediterranean.

Compass repairs are done on the premises and manufacturer's authorized warranty repairs are performed for Ritchie and Plath compasses.

Yacht Delivery and Navigation Services
Jeff Kaufmann has extensive experience as a yacht delivery captain and navigator and schedules approximately 10 delivery trips per year. He holds a US Coast Guard license for operation of passenger vessels. Please feel welcome to contact Cape Compass to inquire about his availability and references.
